Vegetable Gardening 101: The PLOT
The Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum is partnering with the Minnehaha County Master Gardeners to bring you Vegetable Gardening 101, four sessions of hands-on, practical know-how led by Master Gardeners Jerry Mills and Sarah Linneman.
Take one session or all four. Either way, you'll leave with the foundation to grow a successful vegetable garden.
Sessions are free. Registration is required per session. Register below.
Session 1 | April 2, 6:00–7:30 PM
The Dirt: Selecting your garden site, understanding and preparing your soil, choosing your garden type, and determining the right size.
Session 2 | April 9, 6:00–7:30 PM
The Plot: What and when to plant, arranging your garden, gardening in small spaces and containers, selecting seeds, and choosing transplants.
Session 3 | April 16, 6:00–7:30 PM
Mulch H2O: Proper watering, using mulch, making compost, and knowing the right time to harvest.
Session 4 | April 23, 6:00–7:30 PM
What Could Go Wrong?: Managing insects and disease, plus a deep dive into soils and soil nutrients.
All sessions are held at the Jasper Center at the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum, 1900 S. Perry Place, Sioux Falls, SD 57110. Questions and answers are welcome at each session.
